How it works

01

Copy the YouTube link

From the address bar, the Share button, or a youtu.be or Shorts link.

02

Paste it and press Summarize

We get the transcript first, then AI writes a short summary and picks out the key points.

03

Read, copy or jump in

Each key point has its timestamp, so you can open the video at the part that matters.

How to summarize a YouTube video

  1. Copy the video's link from YouTube.
  2. Paste it in the box above and press Summarize video.
  3. Read the summary and key points. Press Copy summary to paste them into your notes.

What you get

  • A TL;DR: two or three sentences on what the video says and where it lands.
  • Key points with timestamps: up to 8 points in order, each with the time it comes up.
  • The full transcript: underneath, with copy and TXT, SRT and VTT download.

Good for lectures, podcasts and long reviews

Use it to decide if a video is worth an hour, to review a lecture before an exam, or to pull the main argument out of a long podcast. It's made from what's actually said in the video, so it's only as good as the audio: check anything important against the transcript.

It also works for TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook and X videos.

Questions

Is the YouTube summarizer free?

Yes. You get 5 free summaries a day with no account. Getting the transcript counts as one of your 5 free transcripts, unless someone already transcribed the same video.

How does the AI summary work?

We get the video's transcript from its captions, or by AI speech recognition when it has none. A language model then writes a short summary and lists the key points, using only what's said in the video.

Can it summarize long videos and podcasts?

Yes. Videos with captions work at any length; very long ones are summarized from their first hour or so. Videos without captions are transcribed up to 20 minutes on the free tool, and up to 2 hours with credits.

Which languages work?

The summary is written in the language of the video.

Is it really free?

Yes. You get 5 free transcripts a day with no account and no watermark. If you need more, credits start at $5 for 200 transcripts, with no daily limit, videos up to 2 hours and a bulk tool for lists and whole channels. No subscription.

How accurate is the transcript?

When the video has captions we use them as they are, which is the most accurate option. When it doesn't, the audio is transcribed by AI speech recognition (Whisper), which handles accents, fast talk and background music well. Names and slang can still need a quick check.

Which languages work?

Speech-to-text works in about 100 languages and detects the language for you. Captions come in whatever language the creator or platform added.

Can I get timestamps or subtitles?

Yes. Turn on Timestamps to see the time of each line, or download the transcript as an SRT or VTT subtitle file for video editors and YouTube.

Do you store my videos?

No. We never download or keep the video. We keep the text transcript of public videos for 30 days so the next person who asks for the same video gets it instantly. Files you upload never leave your device: only their audio track is sent for transcription, and neither the audio nor the transcript is kept.

Need more than 5 summaries a day?

With credits, AI summaries have no daily limit and don't use credits. You only pay for new transcripts: from $5 for 200, videos up to 2 hours, plus a bulk tool for 50 links or a whole channel. No subscription.
