YouTube to text
YouTube to text,in one paste.
Get the full transcript of a YouTube video or Short. We use the video's captions when it has them and transcribe the audio when it doesn't.
How it works
Copy the YouTube link
From the address bar, the Share button, or a youtu.be or Shorts link.
Paste it above
Captions are read straight from YouTube. Videos without captions get AI speech-to-text (up to 20 minutes on the free tool).
Use the text
Copy it into notes or ChatGPT, keep timestamps, or download SRT and VTT subtitles.
Why not use YouTube's "Show transcript"?
YouTube's own transcript panel is hidden in the description menu, splits the text into tiny timestamped lines and can't be downloaded. Here you get clean paragraphs to copy in one click, plus subtitle files, and it also works on Shorts and on videos where the panel is missing.
Questions
How do I get the transcript of a YouTube video?
Paste the video's link in the box above and press Get transcript. You can copy the text or download it.
Does it work with YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Paste the Shorts link as it is.
Is there a length limit?
Videos with captions work at any length. Videos without captions are transcribed by AI up to 20 minutes on the free tool; the bulk tool handles longer ones.
Is it really free?
Yes. You get 5 free transcripts a day with no account and no watermark. If you need more, credits start at $5 for 200 transcripts, with no daily limit, videos up to 2 hours and a bulk tool for lists and whole channels. No subscription.
How accurate is the transcript?
When the video has captions we use them as they are, which is the most accurate option. When it doesn't, the audio is transcribed by AI speech recognition (Whisper), which handles accents, fast talk and background music well. Names and slang can still need a quick check.
Which languages work?
Speech-to-text works in about 100 languages and detects the language for you. Captions come in whatever language the creator or platform added.
Can I get timestamps or subtitles?
Yes. Turn on Timestamps to see the time of each line, or download the transcript as an SRT or VTT subtitle file for video editors and YouTube.
Do you store my videos?
No. We never download or keep the video. We keep the text transcript of public videos for 30 days so the next person who asks for the same video gets it instantly.
Need more than 5 a day?
Credits from $5 for 200 transcripts: no daily limit, videos up to 2 hours, and a bulk tool for 50 links or a whole channel at once, with CSV and JSON export. No subscription.
