Free MP4 to transcript
MP4 to text,without uploading it.
Drop an MP4 and get a transcript of everything that's said, with timestamps. Your browser reads the audio, so even big videos don't need to be uploaded.
How it works
Choose your MP4
Phone videos, screen recordings, Zoom recordings, MOV files from an iPhone.
We pull out the audio
Your browser extracts the sound track and sends only that, compressed, to AI speech recognition.
Copy or download
Plain text, timestamps, or SRT and VTT subtitles ready for your video editor.
How to convert MP4 to text
- Drop the MP4 on the box above, or press choose a file.
- Your browser pulls out the audio and the transcript arrives a few seconds later.
- Copy the text, or download SRT or VTT subtitles to add captions to the video.
Transcribe MP4 videos without uploading them
A 500 MB video can take minutes to upload elsewhere. Here only the audio is sent, about 2 MB for every 10 minutes, so even large MP4s start transcribing almost at once. The video itself never leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
MP4 to transcript, with subtitles
Every line of the transcript keeps its timestamp. Download it as an SRT or VTT file and load it into Premiere, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve or YouTube to caption your video. Free for videos up to 20 minutes; with credits, up to 2 hours.
Video already online?
No need to download it first: paste its link on the video to text converter (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X). For audio files, use MP3 to text or the audio to text converter.
Questions
How do I convert an MP4 video to text?
Drop the MP4 on the box on this page. Your browser extracts the audio, and the transcript appears in a few seconds.
Does it work with MOV files from an iPhone?
Yes. MOV, MP4 and WebM videos all work, as do audio files.
Is there a size limit?
The length limit is 20 minutes free and 2 hours with credits. Very large videos (over 500 MB) can be slow to read on a phone; a computer handles them better.
Can I make subtitles from an MP4?
Yes. Download the transcript as SRT or VTT, with timestamps, and add it to your video in any editor or on YouTube.
Is it really free?
Yes. You get 5 free transcripts a day with no account and no watermark. If you need more, credits start at $5 for 200 transcripts, with no daily limit, videos up to 2 hours and a bulk tool for lists and whole channels. No subscription.
How accurate is the transcript?
When the video has captions we use them as they are, which is the most accurate option. When it doesn't, the audio is transcribed by AI speech recognition (Whisper), which handles accents, fast talk and background music well. Names and slang can still need a quick check.
Which languages work?
Speech-to-text works in about 100 languages and detects the language for you. Captions come in whatever language the creator or platform added.
Can I get timestamps or subtitles?
Yes. Turn on Timestamps to see the time of each line, or download the transcript as an SRT or VTT subtitle file for video editors and YouTube.
Do you store my videos?
No. We never download or keep the video. We keep the text transcript of public videos for 30 days so the next person who asks for the same video gets it instantly. Files you upload never leave your device: only their audio track is sent for transcription, and neither the audio nor the transcript is kept.
