How it works

01

Choose your file

MP3, M4A, WAV, voice memos, or a video (MP4, MOV) whose audio you want as text.

02

We read it on your device

Your browser pulls out the audio track and sends only that to AI speech recognition. The file itself is never uploaded.

03

Copy or download

Plain text, text with timestamps, or SRT and VTT subtitle files.

Transcribe audio to text for free

Choose an audio file and you get the full transcript in seconds: about 25 seconds for every 10 minutes of audio. The free tool takes files up to 20 minutes, 5 a day, with no account and no watermark. With credits you can transcribe files up to 2 hours.

Private by design

Most audio transcription sites upload your whole file to their servers. Here your browser extracts the sound, compresses it and sends only that audio to the speech model, in 10-minute pieces. Nothing is stored: not the file, not the audio and not the transcript.

What you can transcribe

  • Voice memos and recordings: iPhone Voice Memos (M4A), Android recordings, dictation.
  • Interviews and meetings: Zoom, Teams or Meet recordings, phone calls, research interviews.
  • Podcasts and lectures: get show notes, quotes or study notes from an episode or a class.
  • Videos: MP4 and MOV files from your phone or camera. The audio is transcribed; the video stays with you.

Audio file to text, with timestamps

Every line keeps its time, so you can find any moment in the recording. Download the transcript as TXT, or as SRT and VTT subtitles to add captions to a video. For videos that are already online, paste the link on the video to text converter instead; no download needed.

Questions

How do I transcribe an audio file to text?

Press Choose a file (or drop the file on the box), and the transcript appears in a few seconds. Copy it or download it as TXT, SRT or VTT.

Which file types work?

MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC and WebM audio, and MP4, MOV and WebM video. Most phone recordings and voice memos work as they are.

Is my file uploaded or stored?

No. Your browser extracts the audio and sends only the audio, in 10-minute pieces, to the speech model. We don't keep the file, the audio or the transcript.

How long can the file be?

Up to 20 minutes on the free tool. With credits, up to 2 hours, at 1 credit per started 10 minutes.

Is it accurate?

It uses Whisper, a leading speech recognition model, which handles accents and background noise well. Clear recordings give the best results; check names and numbers.

Is it really free?

Yes. You get 5 free transcripts a day with no account and no watermark. If you need more, credits start at $5 for 200 transcripts, with no daily limit, videos up to 2 hours and a bulk tool for lists and whole channels. No subscription.

How accurate is the transcript?

When the video has captions we use them as they are, which is the most accurate option. When it doesn't, the audio is transcribed by AI speech recognition (Whisper), which handles accents, fast talk and background music well. Names and slang can still need a quick check.

Which languages work?

Speech-to-text works in about 100 languages and detects the language for you. Captions come in whatever language the creator or platform added.

Can I get timestamps or subtitles?

Yes. Turn on Timestamps to see the time of each line, or download the transcript as an SRT or VTT subtitle file for video editors and YouTube.

Do you store my videos?

No. We never download or keep the video. We keep the text transcript of public videos for 30 days so the next person who asks for the same video gets it instantly. Files you upload never leave your device: only their audio track is sent for transcription, and neither the audio nor the transcript is kept.

Longer files, or more than 5 a day?

Credits from $5 for 200: files up to 2 hours (1 credit per 10 minutes), no daily limit, plus video links and a bulk tool for 50 links or a whole channel. No subscription.
